TIRANA, Oct 4 /ATA/ The civic protest against the planned investment in Zvërnec continued in the capital this afternoon, marking the 127th consecutive day of demonstrations.
As in previous protests, citizens initially gathered in Skënderbej Square before marching along Dëshmorët e Kombit Boulevard.
Carrying placards and calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama, the protesters reiterated their demands for the removal of what they described as the country’s old political “caste”.
In front of the Prime Minister’s Office, civil society activists reiterated their opposition to the planned tourism investment in the Zvërnec area, as well as to government policies on protected areas and strategic investments.
A protester from the diaspora said the aim of taking part in the demonstrations was to raise public awareness, while criticizing the government for the way it is running the country.
“I have come from the diaspora. Albania is at risk, and we will continue to stand up and keep coming,” she said.
From the podium in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, a citizen called on everyone to take part in the protests not only in the evening, but also during parliamentary sessions.
Activist Mirjan Aliaj, speaking during the 127th protest against the government, addressed the demonstrations announced for tomorrow, October 5.
Aliaj said students would return to the protests and called on young people to lead the movement against the government. The activist also referred to protests announced by smaller municipalities over proposed changes to the country’s territorial organisation.
The protest, which began on May 31 as an objection to the planned investment project in the Zvërnec area, has expanded in the following weeks to include political and institutional demands.
