TIRANA, Sept 24 /ATA/ Democratic Party MPs blocked the parliamentary podium on Thursday after their request to change the agenda was rejected, following recent developments over the security measure imposed on former State Intelligence Service (SHISH) chief Vlora Hyseni.
The plenary session was suspended for 10 minutes after the DP called for interpellations with ministers Sofjan Jaupaj and Mirela Kumbaro to be removed from the agenda and replaced with a debate with Prime Minister Edi Rama on the situation at SHISH.
Berisha, who took the floor first to make his case for the proposed change to the agenda, said parliament should discuss no other issue, arguing that national security was at stake.
“Today, the debate should be exclusively about this issue, and your leader should announce his resignation where he is and come here immediately,” he said.
“Albanians are demanding a full investigation and the truth about this unprecedented incident. The person entrusted with their security has worked with some of the most dangerous criminal cartels and gangs, with Edi Rama’s backing,” the DP leader continued.
“This is not a day like any other. In 35 years, there has never been a day like this,” Berisha said. “Fatos Klosi worked with gangs and used them against political opponents, while this person was a soldier for the gang.”
Meanwhile, Socialist Party Secretary General Blendi Klosi said the party had demonstrated, “not only through political will but through facts”, that its approach to judicial reform would remain its standard.
He said the party would not defend any public official under any circumstances.
“We will not, under any circumstances, shield any individual from personal responsibility if they face the new justice system,” he said.
Addressing Berisha, Klosi recalled that Gazidede, who headed the intelligence service while Berisha was in power, was appointed commander of the Armed Forces in 1997 despite having been accused of killing people.
“To kill even more people, to open the weapons depots and to destroy Albania. Today, you remain a person declared persona non grata, accused of being a criminal and described as the most corrupt person in the Balkans,” Klosi said.
