More than 17,000 students start new school year at vocational schools

TIRANA, Sept. 14 /ATA/ – More than 17,000 students began the new school year at vocational schools across Albania on Monday, continuing their training and preparing for the labour market.

Economy and Innovation Minister Delina Ibrahimaj wished students a successful school year, with a special message for those starting vocational education for the first time.

“A special wish goes to the 10th-grade students who are beginning their journey towards their chosen profession,” Ibrahimaj said.

She said enrolment for 10th grade vocational programmes would remain open until Sept. 30 through Albania’s e-Albania government services portal.

Vocational education schools offer a range of programmes combining classroom-based learning with practical training and work experience in professions in demand in the labour market.

More than 17,000 young people will attend vocational education this year at 31 public schools nationwide. Vocational students now account for 19.4% of all secondary education enrolment, up from 12.7% in 2013.
