PM Rama: Albania is ‘racing against the clock’ to join EU

TIRANA, Sept. 11 /ATA/ – Albania is in a “race against the clock” to advance its European Union integration process, Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Friday evening, stressing the need to maintain progress and continue reporting on reforms to European institutions.

“I see the EU’s door open, and we can cross that threshold only this way,” Rama said.

He said any interruption in the current pace would cause delays in the accession process.

“We have to continue reporting every week on our tasks and commitments there. The moment we stop racing against the clock, the clock stops,” he said.

During the interview, Rama said he was not seeking to become “king or rule forever,” but remained in office because he saw an open path for Albania to join the EU.

“I am not here to become king or to govern forever. I am here because I see the EU’s door open. Once I cross that threshold, you will be rid of me,” Rama said.
