TIRANA, Sept. 11 /ATA/ – Main opposition Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha on Friday paid tribute to the nearly 3,000 people killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in the United States, marking the 25th anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington.
In a message posted on social media, Berisha described al Qaeda as responsible for the deadliest terrorist attack in U.S. history and recalled the subsequent response by the United States and its allies in confronting international terrorism.
DP leader also highlighted Albania’s contribution to the international fight against terrorism, saying the country would continue to play its part in those efforts.
“The 9/11 victims remind us never to forget that Islamist terrorism, as well as terrorism in any form, is a fierce enemy of free people and nations,” Berisha said.
He called for the victims’ memory to be preserved and for democratic societies to remain united and resolute in confronting terrorism.
