TIRANA, Sept. 8 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama met on Tuesday with Sofia Moreira de Sousa, the European Union’s new ambassador to Albania, who has formally taken up her post heading the bloc’s delegation in Tirana.
Rama shared photographs of the meeting at the prime minister’s office on social media, welcoming Moreira de Sousa to Albania.
The meeting came days after the Portuguese diplomat formally began her four-year mandate as EU ambassador to Albania. On Sept. 2, Moreira de Sousa presented her credentials to President Bajram Begaj, formally taking up her duties.
Following the presentation of her credentials, Moreira de Sousa described Albania’s European integration as being at a critical stage and said the shared goal should be to improve citizens’ lives.
She said she would work closely with the Albanian authorities and other partners to advance the country’s path towards EU membership.
