Albania improves PISA 2025 results in maths, science and reading

TIRANA, Sept. 8 /ATA/ – Albanian students improved their performance in mathematics, science and reading in the 2025 PISA international assessment, compared with 2022, Education Minister Mirela Kumbaro said on Tuesday.

Speaking from Bratislava, where an OECD ministerial meeting was being held to present the PISA 2025 results, Kumbaro said Albania’s scores had risen by 65 points in mathematics, 59 points in science and 50 points in reading.

Around 6,000 Albanian 15-year-olds took part in the assessment, which measures students’ ability to apply knowledge and skills to real-life situations and is conducted in around 90 countries, she said.

Kumbaro said the results represented an improvement not only from Albania’s 2022 performance but also compared with other countries in the region. Albania recorded the highest scores in mathematics and science among Western Balkan countries, she said.

The minister said the results should be used as a basis for deeper analysis rather than complacency, and as an incentive to continue improving student and teacher performance.

“PISA helps us improve the performance of students and teachers, but also understand how students apply what they learn at school in real life,” Kumbaro said.
