Himara/Tavo: Situation is under control, no residents are in danger and damage assessments are ongoing

HIMARA, September 5 /ATA/ – Himara lived through a difficult night due to the fire, while the situation is currently under control and does not pose a danger to residents or residential areas.

Mayor of Himara Vangjel Tavo said that thanks to the commitment of the firefighting forces and emergency structures of the Himara Municipality, as well as the support of the National Civil Protection Agency, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Defense and firefighting forces from other municipalities, there were avoided  the serious consequences in residential areas and businesses.

“The night and the wind conspired against us, but at dawn, helicopter support joined the ground operation to douse the remaining flare-ups,” said Tavo.

He emphasized that the relevant structures continue to work on the ground to monitor the situation and identify the damage.

“Fortunately, there were no victims or injured people,” Tavo said.

During the day, the Himara Municipality, in cooperation with the relevant institutions and emergency structures, will continue to identify and assess the damages, as well as to identify cases that need urgent assistance for accommodation, damage recovery or support of any other kind.

Tavo expressed special thanks to the firefighters and all employees engaged in the operation, the citizens who contributed to the fight against the fire, as well as the residents who responded to the call for evacuation from the endangered areas.

“Now, it is the time to support each other and work to recover the damages caused,” concluded Tavo. /p.s./
