TIRANA, September 5 /ATAH/ The Armed Forces continued ground operations overnight to contain the Himara wildfires, bringing calmer conditions to the city by early morning. The flames no longer directly threaten residential areas, allowing response teams to shift their focus to active fires in the hills below Piluri. Aerial firefighting units are currently operating in this zone to isolate and extinguish the remaining hotspots.
Last night, rapidly spreading fires—fueled by strong winds—near the “1 Maji” neighborhood and the Bypass area forced residents and tourists to evacuate their homes and hotels. Media reports confirm that six houses have been destroyed by the fire, three of which were occupied.
Minister of Defense Ermal Nufi was on the ground during the night to closely observe the situation created by the fires and the commitment of the structures to deal with them.
According to the minister, 171 personnel and 10 vehicles were engaged on the ground, while a fire engine and an ambulance were also on standby.
“In Himara, the Armed Forces continued their ground operations overnight to manage the wildfire. A team of 171 personnel, 10 vehicles, a fire engine, and an ambulance remained on standby to support the community and protect lives and property”, wrote Minister Nufi, praising the work of the personnel engaged during the night. /m.q/ /a.g/p.s./
