Albania to launch Virtual Diplomatic Presence for online consular services

TIRANA, Aug 30 /ATA/ – Albania will soon establish a Virtual Diplomatic Presence, a single digital platform offering information and consular services to citizens in countries where it has no physical diplomatic representation, Foreign Minister Ferit Hoxha said on Sunday.

Hoxha said the initiative was part of efforts to modernise and simplify consular services for Albanians at home and abroad, making them faster and more accessible.

In a video message posted on social media, Hoxha said 1.378 million consular services had been administered between 2017 and 2026.

A further 4.3 million legalisations were processed between 2019 and June 2026, while more than 203,000 e-Visa applications have been submitted since 2021, he said.

“Our commitment is to improve and, above all, simplify procedures, bringing services as close as possible to citizens,” Hoxha said.

The foreign ministry is also working to introduce a virtual assistant that would operate around the clock, answer questions and direct users to the appropriate service, he said.

QR codes will be added to consular services to allow citizens to rate the service and submit complaints, Hoxha said, adding that citizens should be not only recipients but also evaluators of public services.

The planned Virtual Diplomatic Presence will provide a single digital access point for information and consular services in countries where Albania does not have a physical diplomatic mission.
