TIRANA, Aug. 28 /ATA/ – Health and Social Welfare Minister Evis Sala has been named among the 100 most influential women in oncology for 2026 by OncoDaily, an international initiative recognising women driving change in cancer care and treatment worldwide.

OncoDaily highlighted Sala’s role in placing oncology at the centre of Albania’s healthcare reform, citing initiatives including the establishment of the National Oncology Institute and National Cancer Network, the standardisation of cancer treatment protocols and the expansion of regional chemotherapy and radiotherapy capacity.

It also pointed to increased funding for cancer medicines and stronger cervical cancer screening and HPV prevention programmes.

Sala is also a professor of radiology at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Rome and previously headed the Diagnostic Imaging and Radiotherapy Department at Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS.

OncoDaily’s “100 Influential Women in Oncology” initiative was launched on Aug. 26, 2023, to recognise 100 women making a difference in oncology worldwide.
