TIRANA, Aug 26 /ATA/ – Albania’s High Judicial Council (KLGJ) on Wednesday approved the basic reference salary for judges, in line with a ruling by the Constitutional Court.
The decision was approved at the council’s plenary meeting and sets the basic reference salary for judges based on the senior management category “Category I” and salary class “Class 1-2”, under a 2023 government decision and subsequent amendments.
The position-based salary was set at 222,425 leks, while the qualification allowance for “Diploma Group 1” was set at 14,000 leks.
The new salary will apply from Aug. 1, 2026 onwards, the council said.
The Department of Budget Planning and Administration and the budget units of courts at all three levels were instructed to conduct a full assessment of 2026 personnel expenditure and begin payments for the period starting August 1.
The relevant bodies must also calculate the financial impact of the decision and, if additional funds are needed for personnel costs during 2026, follow procedures to secure them.
The council also postponed consideration of a draft decision approving the second-phase budget request document for the judiciary’s 2027-2029 medium-term budget programme.
