Returning from abroad, a local farmer finds success by growing aromatic herbs at home

TIRANA, August 24 /ATA/ Ervis Xhihani chose to trade years of life abroad for a fresh start in his hometown of Pojani, Maliq, launching a venture focused on cultivating and gathering local aromatic and medicinal plants.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Andis Salla shared Xhihani’s story, highlighting the economic potential of the medicinal plant sector, which is in high demand both in the domestic and foreign markets.

Showcasing the power of the medicinal plant industry, Xhihani’s business thrives on local and global demand. He cultivates and collects herbs like marigold, milk thistle, mallow and dittany. With a strong export focus, 80% of his harvest is sent abroad to the USA, Germany, the Netherlands, and Sweden.

Driven by strong export demand, medicinal herbs are transforming rural incomes. Returning from abroad, Xhihan invested in his native Maliq region, launching a venture that connects local agriculture to global markets and revitalizes the local landscape.

Salla emphasized that the medicinal and aromatic plant sector offers a strong opportunity for agricultural investment in high-demand international markets. /e.xh/r.e/ /a.g/p.s./
