Koçiu: After 30 years abroad, farmer returns to Belsh to develop his farm

TIRANA,  Aug 20 /ATA/Albania’s hardworking people are demonstrating how dedication, investment and commitment to the land can create new opportunities for development.

Deputy Prime Minister Albana Koçiu shared moments from Gëzimi’s farm in Belsh, highlighting the story of a farmer who returned home after three decades abroad to invest in his native country and build a future in Albania.

“Gëzimi returned to Belsh after 30 years abroad to invest and build his future in his home country. Today, he works in livestock farming, tending to his flock of sheep and goats, while also growing olives and fodder crops,” Koçiu wrote.

Gëzimi currently runs a farm with around 150 sheep and has applied for support under the National Scheme for agricultural mechanisation. Through the scheme, he has secured a tractor and other agricultural equipment, significantly easing the workload on the farm and creating opportunities to expand his operations.

“With support from the Albanian government for farm mechanisation, Gëzimi has received new equipment that will save him time and give him greater opportunities to expand and develop his farm,” Koçiu said.

Gëzimi’s story also illustrates the potential for returning emigrants to contribute to the domestic economy through investment, particularly in rural areas.

“This is Albania 2030 — a country where hard work is rewarded, production is supported and people have more and more reasons to return, stay and invest,” Koçiu said.

From a life abroad to running his own farm in Belsh, Gëzimi’s story highlights a simple message: with investment and support, working the land can create opportunities for a better future.
