Plant exports: Over 15,000 phytosanitary certificates issued in seven months, 60% destined for EU

TIRANA, Aug 19 /ATA/ Albanian exports of plant products continue to meet the phytosanitary requirements of international markets, with 15,559 phytosanitary certificates issued for exports between January and July 2026, the National Veterinary and Plant Protection Authority (AKVMB) said.

According to data published by the AKVMB, around 60% of Albania’s plant-product exports were destined for European Union countries.

Fruits, vegetables, medicinal plants and ornamental plants account for the largest share of exports, continuing to play an important role in the country’s agricultural trade.

The AKVMB explained that a phytosanitary certificate is an official document certifying the health status of plants and plant products, confirming that they are free from quarantine pests and diseases.

The AKVMB highlighted that a key indicator of the safety of Albanian products in foreign markets is the fact that no Albanian plant product has been rejected or returned due to phytosanitary issues.

The AKVMB said maintaining high phytosanitary standards strengthens confidence in Albanian products and creates greater opportunities to expand exports to international markets, particularly in the European Union.
