TIRANA, August 10/ATA/ The National Water Supply and Sewerage Agency stated that the dark water near Hamallaj in Lalëzi Bay was caused by natural tidal mixing, not wastewater discharge.
The agency confirmed that local wastewater is fully treated 24 hours a day before being safely released into the Tarini Stream. The dark color came from mud, silt, and natural sediments stirred up where the drainage channel meets the sea.
The Agency denied any wastewater discharges. It stated that water samples were taken today across the area and promises to publish the technical parameters at the pumping station canal outlet. This response follows reports from residents and vacationers about unusual water discoloration along the coastline.
