Sejko: Bank of Albania upholds banking system continuity, assuring public that all customer deposits are secure

TIRANA, October 21 /ATSH/ – Governor of the Bank of Albania Gent Sejko confirmed today that citizens’ bank deposits are completely safe. He reiterated that the Bank of Albania will continue its professional operations to support the public and the economy.

Speaking during a meeting held in Tirana—convened by Prime Minister Edi Rama with leaders of the country’s banking sector—Sejko stated that discussions focused on challenges and the continued functioning of the financial system, given the situation that has emerged following the protests of the last few days.

“The banking system is a key pillar of the Albanian economy, and it must continue its operations with professionalism,” Sejko remarked.

He thanked commercial banks for keeping their branches open despite the situation in the capital, underscoring that the Bank of Albania’s priority has been to ensure the operational functioning of the payment system, the circulation of physical cash and other activities within the financial system. The Governor emphasized that, despite the tensions of recent days, citizens’ deposits remain secure and are not compromised by events of this nature. According to him, Albanian banks are well-capitalized and possess sufficient liquidity.

Sejko underscored that the banking system serves both citizens and businesses; therefore, the uninterrupted continuation of its operations is vital to the country’s economy.

He gave assurances that the Bank of Albania will continue to act with professionalism and responsibility to address the needs of citizens and the economy, ensuring the continuity of financial services and preventing any disruption to economic activity. /e.xh/j.p/p.s./
