Declaring two individuals ‘persona non grata’: Lamallari cites national interest

TIRANA, August 4/ATA/ Following security consultations, two North Macedonian Albanians, Valon Belen and Bekir Halimi, were barred entry for 10 years.

Interior Minister Besfort Lamallari stated in a ‘Tirana Live’ interview on ABC News that the July 17 decision protects national interests.

We declared both individuals personae non gratae and barred them from Albania for 10 years starting July 17, said Lamallari. Following security consultations, we acted to protect public order and prevent foreign incitement. As an aspiring EU member, we will not permit any actions against our national security, Lamallari emphasized.

“Democracy allows for protest, but it does not excuse violence or disruption. Authorities have a duty to enforce the law and keep the public safe,” Lamallari said. /gj.m/p.s./
