TIRANA, July 29 /ATA/ Customs Administration has referred to the Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organised Crime (SPAK) a suspected case involving the use of forged documents allegedly presented as being issued by Albanian authorities to carry out fictitious customs clearance and export operations from European Union countries.
Customs Director General Besmir Beja said the case had been reported to SPAK, while the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) had been informed to facilitate cooperation in the investigation of the suspected unlawful activity.
According to Beja, the use of forged documents presented as official Albanian documents constitutes a serious violation that undermines the integrity of the customs system and the financial interests of Albania and the European Union.
“Alongside the referral to SPAK, Albanian Customs has informed the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) to support institutional cooperation in investigating and addressing the suspected illegal activity,” Beja said.
The Director General of Customs said the administration would continue efforts to combat fraud and other forms of illegal activity, working closely with law enforcement authorities in Albania and abroad.
“Albanian Customs remains committed to carrying out its law enforcement responsibilities and combating all forms of unlawful activity in order to safeguard the financial interests of Albania and the European Union,” Beja said.
