Hita: Smart City project delivers first results in strengthening public security

TIRANA, July 16  /ATA/ The Smart City project has moved into its implementation stage, becoming one of Albania’s most important investments in public security. Powered by artificial intelligence and an integrated surveillance system, the initiative aims to modernise the prevention and management of security risks across the country.

State Police Director General Skënder Hita said the project is now operational and has begun generating the first concrete outcomes in enhancing public safety in Albania

According to Hita, intensive work has been carried out in recent months to ensure that the project does not remain merely an ambitious idea, but becomes a practical capability serving citizens. He said that Smart City represents a transformation in the way the State Police delivers security, through the use of technology and intelligent systems.

Hita highlighted that the project addresses several key dimensions of security, including strengthening public safety, protecting schools, improving road safety through real-time monitoring of violations, and enhancing the fight against crime through data analysis and modern technology.

Hita said the Smart City project will strengthen multiple areas of security, including public safety, school protection, road safety, crime prevention and border control, by using artificial intelligence, real-time monitoring, data analysis and modern technology.

Hita stressed that these elements are not separate initiatives, but components of an integrated security system that allows the State Police to adopt a more modern, technology-driven and proactive approach to fulfilling its duties.

He said the progress achieved so far demonstrates the value of the investment and the confidence placed in the project, while acknowledging the support provided by the government, the Ministry of Interior and institutional partners.

“Today, we can proudly say that the project has started to deliver tangible results, validating the confidence and investment behind it. I am convinced that, with continued support from the government, the Ministry of Interior and our partners, the Smart City project will become a successful model that will benefit Albania and its citizens for years to come,” he said.

According to Hita, the State Police will continue to develop the project with full commitment, integrating the latest technology with the professionalism of its officers and working closely with all relevant institutions.
