Finance Minister: Albania raises defence budget to 69.2 billion leks, NATO commitments being met

TIRANA, July 8 /ATA/ – Albania has significantly increased spending on defence and security as part of its commitments as a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, supporting the modernisation of its armed forces and strengthening national defence capabilities.

Finance Minister Petrit Malaj on Wednesday said the country’s defence spending has risen from 24.1 billion leks in 2020 to 52.6 billion leks in 2025, reaching 69.2 billion leks this year.

“Albania continues to meet its NATO commitments responsibly by steadily increasing investment in defence and security,” Malaj said.

According to the Minister, the higher level of funding has enabled the modernisation of the Albanian Armed Forces, improved operational capabilities and strengthened Albania’s contribution to the Alliance’s collective security.

The figures show that defence spending has risen consistently in recent years, reflecting the government’s priority on national security and its efforts to meet NATO capability and spending targets.
