TIRANA, June 29 /ATA/ – Albania’s parliament has formally set up a new Subcommittee on Public Information Integrity, Disinformation and Foreign Interference, tasked with addressing challenges related to information security, democratic resilience and external influence.
The body held its inaugural meeting on Monday under the chairmanship of Iris Luarasi. The subcommittee’s leadership also includes Deputy Chair Agron Gjekmarkaj, while Ardit Bido, Arbjan Mazniku and Greta Bardeli will serve as members.
According to parliament, the subcommittee will oversee issues related to foreign interference, disinformation and information manipulation, as well as the protection of democratic processes and the integrity of public information.
Its mandate also covers media freedom, policies and institutional mechanisms affecting the information and digital environment, and the impact of emerging technologies on public discourse. The body is expected to coordinate closely with national security institutions and international partners on matters within its remit.
Luarasi said the subcommittee would begin work at its next meeting on drafting a work programme and activity calendar for the 2026-2027 period, in line with the objectives of Albania’s national strategy on countering foreign interference and disinformation.
