Kumbaro: New higher education law establishes internationalization as a core pillar of reform

TIRANA, June 23/ATA/ Minister of Education Mirela Kumbaro attended the final project presentations for the “Aleksandër Moisiu” University Campus International Competition. The project aims to create a dynamic, integrated ecosystem where education, scientific research, innovation and entrepreneurship seamlessly come together.

During her speech, Kumbaro said that, “Campus projects always look toward the long term. Aleksandër Moisiu University recently celebrated its 20th anniversary—a milestone that, while relatively young, is long enough to have built a solid academic tradition, a strong identity and the trust of thousands of graduates”.

“Today, Aleksandër Moisiu University is a dynamic community of five faculties and thousands of learners driven by a single ambition: to be a globally competitive and modern institution within Europe. Reflecting the spirit of Durrës as Albania’s historic gateway to the West, our university continues this legacy by actively leading the way in internationalization”, emphasized Kumbaro.

“Internationalization is a cornerstone of our vision for Albania beyond 2030 and a key focus in our higher education law review,” the minister stated.

She added that the new campus must go beyond infrastructure to become a unified ecosystem.

“We are creating an ecosystem where education, research, innovation, and entrepreneurship work together rather than in isolation. World-class universities stand out for their dynamic, innovation-driven environments. They have a rare, long-term vision that shapes the physical landscape and fosters community development”, underlined Kumbaro.

Minister Kumbaro stated that, “We don’t just design a campus for today; we design for how learning and collaboration will evolve in twenty to thirty years. I am proud to announce that UAMD is in a new era of development, driven by a historic 2026 education budget. With milestones like the new Faculty of Professional Studies and an international design competition for our campus, we are heavily focused on global integration. Today, we are excited to see five finalist teams present their master plan designs to an international jury in a competition that is redefining how design contests are organized”. /k.s/a.f/r.e/p.s./
