Balla meets young Albanians from North Macedonia: Albanian language is not negotiable

TIRANA, June 23 /ATA/ Chairman of the Parliamentary group of the Socialist Party, at the same time co-chair of the National Council for European Integration Taulant Balla held a conversation today with young Albanians of North Macedonia.

Balla stated that Albanians are a core state-forming nation in this society, not just an ethnic minority. As such, the right to education and the unrestricted public use of the Albanian language are fundamental, non-negotiable commitments that uphold basic democratic principles and coexistence.

“Fueled by unfriendly actors, foreign-sponsored groups are currently trying to sow division and spread anti-American and anti-Semitic ideas within our society. We must reject these fringe narratives—our deep, strategic relationship with the US is non-negotiable and will always remain strong”, he added.

According to Balla, the Ohrid Framework Agreement is the cornerstone of North Macedonia’s multi-ethnic democracy. Suppressing the Albanian language in academic or institutional settings undermines this agreement and severely damages the nation’s Euro-Atlantic integration process.

During the conversation, Balla also commented on the reactions related to the project of Zvërnec, regarding the environmental impact and the return of flamingos to the area after the hunting moratorium.

“The flamingos were forgotten. Until 2013, flamingos did not come there because hunters killed them. After we took power, we imposed a moratorium on hunting and the flamingos returned. Now you see environmentalists there, but we also saw people who hold positions in support of the Iranian regime,” said Balla.

Balla also underlined the significance of Albania’s relations with the United States of America, describing them as irreplaceable for the history and future of the country. /m.m/j.p/p.s./
