TIRANA, June 19 /ATA/ – Tirana International Airport has invested around 300 million euros in infrastructure, operational capacity and workforce development in recent years as it seeks to accommodate rapidly growing passenger traffic and expand Albania’s global connectivity, the airport’s chief operating officer said on Friday.
Speaking at a ceremony marking the launch of the first direct flight between Tirana and Toronto, Chief Operating Officer Piervittorio Farabi said the investment programme had transformed the airport into a modern aviation hub capable of supporting larger-scale international operations.
“We have invested 300 million euros in the transformation of Tirana Airport, bringing it in line with the standards of modern aviation,” Farabi said.
He said the investments had delivered tangible results by attracting new airlines, expanding destination networks and helping reduce travel costs for passengers flying to and from Albania.
Farabi described the launch of the airport’s first transatlantic route as a milestone for both Tirana International Airport and the wider aviation sector, saying it reflected years of work to strengthen Albania’s international air links.
According to Farabi, improved air connectivity plays a key role in supporting economic growth, tourism and social development, while creating new opportunities for trade and investment.
He said Tirana International Airport now welcomes visitors from across the world, with the continued expansion of its route network helping promote Albania as an increasingly accessible tourism destination.
The new Toronto service is also expected to strengthen links with Albania’s diaspora in Canada, home to a sizeable Albanian community, Farabi added.
