Zvërnec development protests enter day 15 in Tirana

TIRANA, June 14 /ATA/ Today marked the 15th day of protests against the controversial development project in Zvërnec. Carrying red-and-black flags and banners, a crowd of citizens and civil society activists gathered in Skanderbeg Square and marched down the boulevard toward the Premier’s Office. Along the route, demonstrators chanted for “justice, not impunity” and a “New Albania.”

The gathering began at 18:00 in central Tirana, where the first speeches were held, to continue 30 minutes later in front of the Premier’s Office, while during the march, the protesters also called on the passers-by to join the protest.

Chanting “Revolution, revolution,” the crowd gathered outside the Premier’s Office to deliver their speeches. The assembly began with the national anthem, followed by citizens and activists taking the podium to voice their grievances and justify their demands.

Protesters are demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister, the cancellation of laws favoring strategic investors, the withdrawal of the Mountain Package, and the repeal of controversial amendments to the laws governing Protected Areas and Cultural Heritage.

After rallying outside the Premier’s Office for about two hours, the demonstration spilled onto the main thoroughfares of Tirana.
