PM Rama highlights Shëngjin Bypass as major infrastructure project for tourism

TIRANA, June 13 /ATA/ The Shëngjin bypass is regarded as one of the most significant infrastructure investments aimed at supporting tourism development in northern Albania, with the goal of easing traffic congestion and improving access to the country’s coastal tourist destinations.

Prime Minister Edi Rama today shared photographs from the construction site of the Shëngjin bypass, stating that the new road infrastructure will divert traffic from the town centre and significantly improve traffic flow during the summer season.

According to Rama, the bypass will also provide a faster and more efficient connection between Shëngjin, Rana e Hedhun and Velipojë, enhancing accessibility to key coastal tourism destinations in northern Albania.

Built along the slopes of Mount Rrenc, the bypass is expected to serve not only as a transport corridor but also as a scenic route, further enhancing the tourism appeal of the area.

The road section extends for 8.1 kilometres and is being financed by the Albanian Development Fund. Construction works are currently underway on both ends of the route, while the project is also set to connect with the new Shëngjin-Velipojë Road corridor, improving connectivity along Albania’s northern coastline.

According to the construction schedule, the Shëngjin bypass is expected to be completed by February 2027.

The project forms part of broader efforts to direct public investment towards areas with significant tourism potential, with the aim of improving infrastructure and enhancing access to tourist destinations across the country.
