Albania moves to digitise freight transport documentation

TIRANA, June 12 /ATA/ – Albania is moving to digitise freight transport documentation as part of efforts to align its legislation with European Union standards and streamline logistics procedures.

A draft law on electronic freight transport information (eFTI) was reviewed on Thursday by parliament’s Legal Affairs and Public Administration Committee.

Deputy Economy and Innovation Minister Enkelejd Musabelliu said the legislation would establish the legal framework for transport-related information and documents to be submitted and exchanged electronically, replacing paper-based procedures.

The proposal is part of Albania’s EU Growth Plan commitments and aims to bring national legislation into line with the EU’s eFTI regulation.

Under the new system, transport documents, customs and transit paperwork, permits and other certificates would be stored and shared digitally through certified platforms, while inspection authorities would be required to accept electronic versions.

Musabelliu said the reform would reduce administrative costs for businesses, speed up inspection procedures and improve data exchange between companies and public institutions.

He added that the initiative would also enhance transparency, traceability and data security, while supporting the modernisation of Albania’s transport and logistics sector and its further alignment with EU standards.
