The Albanian capital, Tirana, has been selected to host the 2028 annual meeting of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), a major international event expected to bring to Albania financial institution leaders, government representatives, investors, and development partners from dozens of countries.
The announcement was made by the Deputy Minister of Finance, Endrit Yzeiraj, at the conclusion of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Annual Meeting held in Riga.
According to Yzeiraj, hosting the meeting in Tirana represents an important recognition of Albania’s role and progress in the region, as well as of its sustained partnership with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, one of the most active financial institutions supporting the country’s economic development.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has invested approximately €2.5 billion in Albania since 1991, financing strategic projects in infrastructure, energy, the financial sector, and private sector development.
One of the key priorities of this cooperation remains the modernisation of Albania’s railway network, through investments by the EBRD and other European financial institutions, with the aim of enhancing connectivity and integrating the country into European transport networks.
More than half of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development’s portfolio in Albania is also directed toward the private sector, supporting local enterprises to enhance competitiveness and align with European Union market standards.
Hosting the EBRD annual meeting in 2028 is regarded as an important opportunity to promote Tirana and Albania internationally as a destination for investment, business, and economic development.
