TIRANA, June 8/ATA/ At today’s meeting of the Subcommittee on Public Sector Audit, the State Social Service presented its report detailing how it has addressed the recommendations from the Supreme State Audit’s performance audit on elderly care.
General Director of the Social Services Reme Lala said that the primary recommendation is to increase the budget allocated to residential social care facilities.
She announced a 4 million lekë investment in 2025 to purchase electrical appliances, improving living conditions in residential care homes for the elderly.
Meanwhile, for 2026, a dedicated budget of 66 million lekë has been allocated to upgrade and equip social care institutions, ensuring the modernization of services for vulnerable populations.
In response to the question, Lala said that in the country there are currently six public residential centers for the elderly, financed by the budget of the Ministry of Health, Social Affairs and Health, with a capacity of 332 places.
Currently, 320 elderly people receive services in these centers. Also, each municipality has social service registers and local social plans, which serve to identify groups in need and guide them towards the necessary services. /e.i/r.e/p.s./
