TIRANA, June 8 /ATA/ Chairman of the Socialist Party, also Prime Minister Edi Rama, stated today at the 35th anniversary event of the Socialist Party branch in Shkodra that no one can accuse his party of betraying the national interest, a stance it has always maintained and will never violate.
In response to the Zvërnec protests, Rama argued that critics underestimate the Socialist Party.
“You can criticize the Socialist Party for many things, but no one can ever point a finger at it as a force that has ever betrayed the national interest.
The prime minister emphasized that protecting the national interest has remained a non-negotiable priority for the SP from day one.
Rama also took the opportunity to recall the time under the Democratic Party when oil was smuggled from Shkodra to the former Yugoslavia to supply Slobodan Milosevic’s murderous machinery.
“The boats passed through with the blessings of hypocrites. By day, these leaders spoke passionately of Kosovo’s freedom and condemned the bloody dictatorship destroying Yugoslavia. By night, they supplied the weapons and machinery used to crush the very people trying to escape Belgrade’s fascist grip. Meanwhile, they said that it was the Socialist Party that was created by Belgrade and protected the interests of Belgrade. Time inevitably reveals the true nature of events,” said Rama.
