TIRANA, June 2 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama on Tuesday invited a group of protesters opposing a planned investment project in coastal area of Zvërnec, southern Albania, to take part in a public discussion, following a rally outside the prime minister’s office a day earlier.
In a social media post, Rama responded to criticism directed at him during Monday’s protest and said he was willing to discuss concerns related to the project, as well as broader issues of public interest.
“I am always ready to listen to you if you want to talk about Zvërnec, transparency, property rights, foreign investment, nature conservation or any other matter of public interest,” Rama said.
Seeking to move the debate beyond exchanges on social media, Rama invited the protesters to nominate a group of up to 20 representatives for a public meeting at a time and place of their choosing.
“Gather no more than 20 people and you are welcome. We can sit down for a public discussion wherever and whenever you want,” he said.
The invitation came amid continuing debate over the proposed investment in the coastal Zvërnec area, which has drawn criticism from environmental activists and local residents concerned about its potential impact on the surrounding ecosystem.
