TIRANA, May 31 /ATA/ – The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha, has dismissed political initiatives in Montenegro aimed at revoking recognition of Kosovo, describing them as outdated approaches that run counter to the political and international realities of the region.
Asked in Prishtina about the issue on Sunday, Hoxha said he had followed statements by political actors in the region advocating the withdrawal of recognition of Kosovo. However, he stressed that such initiatives enjoy only limited support and belong to a bygone era.
“Any idea or attempt to question the reality of the Republic of Kosovo is not only unrealistic, but also contrary to the spirit of cooperation, good neighbourly relations, and the European future of our region,” Hoxha stated.
He described Kosovo as “an irreversible political, legal, and international reality” and as an important investment in peace, stability, and reconciliation in the Western Balkans.
“Anyone who still fails to understand this reality is living in another era, dreaming with their eyes open. I would simply call them political sleepwalkers,” the Albanian minister said.
According to Hoxha, any initiative aimed at undermining this reality harms regional cooperation and the European prospects of the Western Balkan countries.
He emphasized that the region needs more dialogue, stronger good-neighbourly relations, and the building of bridges of cooperation, rather than a return to narratives of the past that have generated division and tension.
“Albania will continue to support the Republic of Kosovo without reservation and will remain fully committed to strengthening its international position,” he added.
Foreitn Minister underlined that the future of the region must be built on mutual respect, cooperation, and European integration, stressing that “Albanians have chosen the European Union, and there is no alternative path.”
