Berisha: Albania’s EU integration impossible with PM Rama in power

TIRANA, May 31 /ATA/ – Main opposition Democratic Party (DP) leader Sali Berisha has reacted to recent statements by Prime Minister Edi Rama concerning the intergovernmental conference in Brussels, accusing him of misinformation, corruption, and a lack of transparency in governance.

In a video message published on social media on Sunday, Berisha claimed that 32 major amendments had been introduced in relation to the Interim Benchmark Assessment Report (IBAR) for Albania, which, according to him, demonstrate serious breaches of anti-corruption and transparency principles by the government.

He argued that recent developments in the European integration process reflect significant governance deficiencies, particularly in relation to accountability and the fight against corruption.

Berisha also criticized government-led digital initiatives, alleging that they are being misused “to steal from citizens.”

He cited a comparison between digital projects, claiming that an “Skanderbeg” avatar revealed at DP assembly a day ago cost around 100 euros, while Prime Minister Rama’s “Diella” avatar reportedly cost approximately 4 million euros.

Concluding his remarks, Berisha stated that “with Edi Rama, there can be no European integration,” arguing that the country’s digital transformation is being used, as he put it, to place an undue financial burden on citizens.
