TIRANA, May 20 /ATA/ – European Union Ambassador Silvio Gonzato said Albania must maintain and accelerate the pace of reforms if the country aims to conclude EU accession negotiations by 2027.
The remarks came during a meeting between EU member state ambassadors and Albania’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha, the EU Delegation in Tirana said on Wednesday.
According to the EU Delegation, discussions focused on the progress of accession negotiations and key issues including the fight against corruption and organised crime, environmental policies and the implementation of reforms.
Participants also stressed the importance of ensuring broad public understanding and support for the EU enlargement process.
Gonzato said reforms linked to EU integration should be carefully prepared, broadly consulted with relevant stakeholders and effectively implemented to deliver tangible benefits for citizens.
The EU Delegation added that continued dialogue with EU member states remains essential throughout Albania’s accession negotiations.
