TIRANA, May 17 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Sunday that a new public-private financing programme for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will expand access to credit and support business growth across Albania.
Speaking on his Let’s Talk, Rama said the “Double Your Enterprise” initiative, involving the government, the banking sector and the Bank of Albania, combines low-interest lending with sovereign guarantees to ease financing constraints for businesses.
He described the scheme as a “significant step forward” with tangible potential to accelerate private sector expansion.
“The programme gives small and medium-sized enterprises greater opportunities to grow through low-cost loans and state-backed guarantees,” Rama said.
The scheme is designed to meet rising demand from local businesses seeking investment and expansion, including entrepreneurs returning from abroad, he added.
According to Rama, the programme will offer loans at interest rates of 2%-3%, with sovereign guarantees covering 30%–70% of exposure depending on risk.
He said the initiative is expected to provide concrete financing opportunities for thousands of Albanian enterprises, strengthening investment and economic development.
