TIRANA, May 15/ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama stated at the “Lennart Meri” conference in Estonia that Europe must open a direct channel of communication with Vladimir Putin.
“Talking to him will not be easy”, said Rama adding that, “Our support for Ukraine is unwavering, yet we must evolve our methods to ensure they serve the broader goal of peace, stability, and European unity.”
Rama reminded that diplomacy remains necessary even in the most severe conflicts.
Rama clarified his statement by saying that he was not asking Europe to rely on Russia for its security, but to make use of diplomatic means.
“Israel and Hamas are at war, but they talk to each other. I come from a country where no one has been to Moscow since the 1960s and no one comes from Moscow. So I am absolutely far from someone who wants to meet with Putin. But someone has to meet him. So, I say, diplomacy is a necessity. Why do leaders go to US President Donald Trump and tell him what Putin said? Let them go directly and talk with Putin,” Rama said. /p.s./
