TIRANA, May 14/ATA/ Minister of Economy and Innovation Delina Ibrahimaj spoke today in the Parliament outlining the government’s measures to mitigate price hikes stemmimg from Middle East instability and its impact on global markets.
Ibrahimaj responded to the interpellation requested in the Parliament by Democratic Party MP Enno Bozdo regarding this matter.
Ibrahimaj emphasized that these developments are naturally and directly reflected in the domestic market.
“Surging international oil prices immediately impact our local economy, driving up transportation costs and commodity prices while suppressing business activity and consumer purchasing power. But, of course, the main question today is not whether Albania can stop this crisis, whether Albania can stop the increase in prices. The main question is: how has the Albanian government acted to protect citizens, to avoid abuses and to maintain economic stability”, said Ibrahimaj.
The minister assured that the government has acted in a timely, responsible and prudent manner.
The main task of the government, according to Ibrahimaj, “is to maintain stability”.
Ibrahimaj also focused on the activation of the Transparency Board for fuels, which sets ceiling prices and controls wholesale and retail trading margins, ensuring that stock market fluctuations are reflected fairly and without room for speculation.
Ibrahimaj emphasized that in context of the current crisis, the intervention is focused on fuel, public transport, market monitoring and transparency.
“In April 2026, Albania has an inflation of 2.8%, among the countries with the lowest inflation in the Western Balkans and Southeast Europe,” she emphasized.
“This shows that Albania has maintained a relatively more stable price environment than most countries in the region and some European Union countries. Albania has also had a good performance in food inflation,” Ibrahimaj said.
Ibrahimaj emphasized that the government has taken measures and policies in order to ensure that inflation does not erode the incomes of Albanian citizens.
In conclusion, Ibrahimaj emphasized that if international developments worsen, we are ready to take additional measures, as we have done in the past.
According to Ibrahimaj, any new social measure will be activated immediately if it is noticed that the incomes of Albanian families will be affected. /j.p/p.s./
