Defence Minister, EEAS delegation discuss security and defence partnership

TIRANA, May 7 /ATA/ – Defence Minister Ermal Nufi met on Thursday with Cosmin Dobran, director for Peace, Partnerships and Crisis Management at the European External Action Service (EEAS), to discuss security and defence cooperation.

The two sides highlighted the EU-Albania Security and Defence Partnership as a practical platform for structured cooperation, with Albania reaffirming its commitment to deepening dialogue and delivering concrete results.

Nufi said Albania remained a reliable partner for European security and reiterated the country’s full alignment with the European Union’s foreign and security policy, while also stressing the importance of strengthening strategic cooperation between the EU and NATO.

The talks also focused on Albania’s contribution to international peacekeeping missions, including participation in EU crisis-management operations.

Albania currently contributes a 125-member light infantry company to the EU Battlegroup (EUBG-27) under Italian command and has expanded its presence in the EUFOR Althea mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina through the deployment of a platoon.

Albanian Coast Guard vessels continue to support NATO-led efforts to tackle irregular migration and strengthen maritime security in the Aegean Sea.
