Albania and Kosovo lift border checks for most of the year

TIRANA, May 1 /ATA/ – A new agreement on free movement between Kosovo and Albania entered into force on Friday, allowing citizens to cross the border without passports or identity cards for most of the year.

Under the arrangement, vehicles registered in Kosovo and Albania will no longer be subject to routine border checks, enabling faster and smoother cross-border travel.

The simplified procedures will apply for nine months annually – specifically from May 1 to September 30, and from November 1 to February 28 of the following year.

The measure comes ahead of the summer tourist season and is expected to facilitate travel for holidaymakers heading to Albania’s coastal areas, while also easing overall traffic flow between the two countries.

The free movement regime aims to support economic activity, boost tourism, and further strengthen cooperation between Kosovo and Albania.

The agreement is seen as a step forward in deepening regional connectivity and advancing integration between the two countries.
