TIRANA, April 16 /ATA/ – The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha, said on Thursday that a protest by Albanian students in North Macedonia should be addressed by that country’s parliament and political actors, in line with the Ohrid Agreement and the “inalienable rights” of the Albanian community.
Responding in parliament to opposition MP Ina Zhupa, who called for a joint parliamentary statement, Hoxha said he had already made several public statements, including after meeting with the students’ representatives, and that the situation was being closely monitored.
“There is no disagreement on this issue,” he said.
Turning to the Diaspora Summit, Hoxha said the event had been an “undisputed success” and marked a more substantive approach to engagement with the Albanian diaspora.
He said the focus had shifted from what the diaspora could do for Albania to what could be achieved jointly.
“This is a step towards the next level,” he said, adding that Albania was seeking new mechanisms for closer engagement with its diaspora, which he described as a continuation of the country abroad.
Hoxha said discussions at the summit had included a broad range of topics, including identity, youth, economy, trade, agriculture, local development, sport and European integration.
