TIRANA, March 31 /ATA/ – Albania will establish a French high school (lycée) in the southeastern city of Korça as part of a joint initiative between the Albanian and French governments, Education Minister Mirela Kumbaro said Tuesday.
The project was launched under the auspices of French President Emmanuel Macron and Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama.
The French High School in Korça is intended as a regional center of excellence in technology and innovation, offering dual diplomas to students. Instruction will be delivered in French and Albanian, with courses in English and Italian also included. The teaching and administrative staff will be primarily French, and the school will welcome both Albanian students and those from other countries.
Speaking at a press conference, Kumbaro said the project’s campus plan has already been approved by the National Territorial Council and will incorporate the historic building of the French high school, along with two new structures for classrooms, laboratories, a library, a cafeteria, and student dormitories.
“This is an elite project that significantly contributes to the internationalization of education in Albania,” Kumbaro said. She added that curricula are ready and the legislation is currently in public consultation.
The initiative follows recent meetings in Paris with French education officials, including Éléonore Caroit and Bernard Buchwalter, senior adviser to President Macron on European affairs, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in education.
