Rama says EU negotiations transforming Albanian Institutions

TIRANA, March 30 /ATA/-By Maela Marini/ Prime Minister Edi Rama highlighted on Monday that the European Union negotiation process significantly enhances the country’s institutional capacities.

In a briefing on the progress of Albania’s EU accession talks, Rama noted that “Albania is moving ahead steadily, taking concrete and assured steps to implement reforms that align us with European standards.”

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of ensuring that the public is fully apprised of the complexity of this significant national undertaking.

“What is publicly said is often incomplete, overly simplistic, or entirely disconnected from the realities behind the process. Undoubtedly, the process is highly demanding, and the entire negotiation team deserves commendation for their efforts,” Rama stated, while highlighting the meetings held by ministers in Brussels.
According to the Prime Minister, “the process offers extraordinary benefits and is indispensable.”
“EU membership is often perceived at a surface level, without an understanding that this process is truly historic: it transforms the Albanian state and provides its institutions with powers and capacities never seen before in our history,” Rama stated.

According to him, the enhancement of institutional capacities also strengthens the rule of law across all its dimensions—not merely in the independent exercise of the judiciary, but also in the exercise of authority by every institution in the light of law enforcement and the protection of citizens’ rights.
