Government approves 2026 agriculture programme with up to 70% funding for farmers

TIRANA, March 30 /ATAH/ – The government has approved a decision setting out the main sectors to be supported and the level of funding under the 2026 agriculture and rural development programme, including investment subsidies of up to 70% for farmers.

The Council of Ministers said on Monday funds allocated in the 2026 state budget to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, under transfers to households, will be used to boost the competitiveness of agricultural and livestock production.

Support will be provided through direct payments, biological control measures, product certification and the development of farms, agro-processing, aquaculture and agritourism.

Under the direct payments scheme, farmers will receive financial support for registered core livestock herds, including cattle, small ruminants, beekeeping and pigs, with funding levels varying by category and thresholds.

The programme also envisages support for cultivated areas, biological pest control in greenhouses, as well as organic farms both in transition and fully certified.

Additional funding will be available for certification under international standards such as GlobalG.A.P., covering up to 50% of costs, and for fish restocking in inland waters.

In terms of investments, farmers will be supported in modernising farms, including the purchase of machinery and equipment, construction or reconstruction of livestock shelters, and incentives for young farmers.

Investment support will cover up to 70% of eligible costs, with total funding for this category reaching up to 2.5 billion leks.

The decision also allocates funds to settle outstanding obligations from previous support schemes and sets rules for managing applications in cases where demand exceeds available funding.
