Berisha: Albania is not what PM Rama represents

TIRANA, March 30 /ATA/ – Main opposition Democratic Party (DP) leader Sali Berisha said on Monday that Albania is now what Prime Minister Edi Rama represents, accusing the government head of using parliamentary mandates to protect himself and Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku.

Speaking at a weekly gathering outside the Prime Minister’s office in Tirana, Berisha thanked DP and opposition supporters for their participation and renewed his criticism of the government.

“He used mandates in parliament to shield the immunity of MP Belinda Balluku, but in reality he is protecting himself,” Berisha said, calling the move “ugly” and “unprecedented”.

Berisha also accused Rama of undermining the country’s prospects, saying Albanians were being forced to emigrate despite the country’s resources.

He reiterated that Albanians aspire to European integration and acknowledged the role of European taxpayers in supporting the country’s development over the past three decades.

However, he said progress on EU accession would remain stalled unless the justice system functions effectively.

“The opposition will rise and show Europe and the world that Albania is not what Edi Rama represents,” Berisha said, adding that his party would continue its efforts “until victory.”
