Tabaku says tax burden is squeezing households

TIRANA, March 23 /ATA/ Democratic Party MP Jorida Tabaku issued a statement via a video on social media addressing recent economic developments in the country.

Tabaku emphasized that the Albanian economy has effectively become a ‘witch hunt’ targeting those who work, while the latest budgetary figures reveal a sobering shift in the fiscal burden.

Revenues from labor taxation now account for approximately 20% of total budget revenues, having become the principal source of public financing, Tabaku declared.

Tabaku underscored that revenues from consumption are in decline, a clear signal that citizens are spending less due to soaring prices and the diminishing purchasing power.

Tabaku emphasized that the system fails to stimulate high‑productivity sectors, has depleted its resources, and increasingly favors a privileged minority, while it leaves the majority of citizens struggling with higher taxes and fewer opportunities.

Tabaku criticized the current economic model, calling it unproductive and oriented toward mismanaged and corrupt investments that fail to generate added value for the economy.

Concluding her statement, she called for urgent reform, framing the situation as an economic and demographic emergency for Albania.
