Albania, World Bank discuss farm resilience project and EU-aligned food controls

TIRANA, Feb 27 /ATA/ – The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Andis Salla met World Bank representatives on Friday to review Albania’s progress on a climate resilience and agriculture development project, with discussions focusing on strengthening food safety controls in line with European Union standards.

The talks, held in the coastal city of Vlora, centred on the Climate Resilience and Agriculture Development (CRAD) project, particularly a component aimed at boosting food security through upgraded border inspection points, modernised laboratories and expanded storage capacity.

Agriculture Minister said the groundwork for the project’s implementation had been laid in 2025 and that the meeting sought to establish clear timelines and responsibilities to speed up investments.

He stressed the need to reinforce Albania’s control and inspection systems to meet EU standards, a key requirement in the country’s accession process, and to improve oversight across the agricultural supply chain.

The meeting also provided a platform for coordination between Albanian institutions and the World Bank on strengthening climate resilience in the farming sector.

The CRAD project aims to enhance infrastructure and technological capacity, help farmers adopt sustainable practices and align the sector with international standards, supporting higher productivity, improved food security and sustainable rural development.
