TIRANA, Feb 20 /ATA/ – Protesters clashed with police in streets near Parliament building in Tirana on Friday evening after security forces dispersed a crowd gathered outside the legislature.
Following the dispersal, groups of protesters moved into nearby roads, where they continued throwing fireworks and Molotov cocktails.
Police were stationed near the Elbasan Road bridge, using water cannons and tear gas to push back demonstrators. The confrontations lasted for more than an hour, while protesters later dispersed in front of the Democratic Party (DP) headquarters.
DP Secretary General Flamur Noka told reporters there would be no halt to protests until the government steps down.
“We are in protest,” Noka said, thanking demonstrators and describing the rallies as a mission.
He also alleged that tear gas had been used against worshippers at a mosque, as well as against protesters.
