TIRANA, Feb 14 /ATA/ – The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Elisa Spiropali met Germany’s Minister of State for Europe Gunther Krichbaum in Munich on Saturday to discuss accelerating Albania’s European Union accession process.
The meeting, held at the House of Germany on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, focused on strengthening the strategic partnership between Albania and Germany in support of EU integration.
Foreign Minister Spiropali underscored the importance of continued German backing for structural reforms, the strengthening of democratic institutions and the expansion of economic cooperation between the two countries.
The two sides highlighted that the continuation of the EU enlargement process represents a strategic investment for both candidate countries and the European Union itself.
Discussions centred on a concrete agenda aimed at speeding up Albania’s accession process and achieving the goal of wrapping up technical negotiations by 2027.
“We discussed a very concrete agenda for the continuation of Albania’s accession process, at an even more accelerated pace,” Spiropali said. “Germany’s support has been and will remain decisive in advancing structural reforms, strengthening democratic institutions and deepening economic cooperation, as well as in achieving our objective of closing technical negotiations by 2027.”
Spiropali reiterated Albania’s commitment to reforms and institutional transformation, saying the country expects the EU accession process to remain merit-based, credible, predictable and timely for Albania and the wider Western Balkans region.
She added that the partnership with Germany strengthens that perspective and brings Albania closer to its goal of EU membership.
