TIRANA, January 27 /ATA/ On the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, President Bajram Begaj highlighted the significance of commitment and shared responsibility for the protection of inalienable human dignity and the universal rights to live in peace.
“Remembrance Day should serve as a call to collective conscience to protect with humanity and responsibility the right of everyone to live with dignity and in peace because we have all seen the terrible consequences of ethnic, racial, religious hatred and anti-Semitism,” the head of state wrote in his message.
Begaj extolled the brotherly love and empathy of Albanians in protecting and sheltering Jews during the Nazi reign of terror.
“This day calls us to honor the resilience, valor, and boundless unity of the human spirit of the Albanian people, who during World War II welcomed and protected with dignity all the Jews who took shelter in our country to escape Nazi extermination,” wrote Begaj. /m.q/j.p/p.s./
